MY NEW ALBUM IS NIGH!
Four years ago a few things broke loose at once.
My father passed away; gratitude for his love and grief at his loss flooded me. Goldemort took the Electoral College; sadness and indignation set up camp. And I'd started writing songs again after years of quiet. Well, not quiet exactly — parenting and poetry.
Those things all swirled together like a slow-motion avalanche. Four years later, what's accrued is almooooost here — my upcoming album A Filament in the Wilderness of What Comes Next.
A Filament in the Wilderness of What Comes Next?
Yes, it's a mouthful. Just call it Filament if you're short on time.
I have so much to say about this music, and I will... over the next few months. But for now I'll keep it kinda short: I just want to tell you how excited I am, and that it's available for presale starting today!
There are a number of fun packages to choose from, starting with a tiny donation all the way to a Gates Foundation-sized grant. In between, there are:
downloads
compact discs
t-shirts that say "This App Trolls Fascists"
dad hats
leftist activity books for indoctrinating children
private livestream concerts
3 ways to get your name in the credits
and more
That's the merchandising. As for the music — these are my best songs. (Of course artists always say that about their newest stuff; would YOU invest your time if I said, "Oh, this is definitely my 8th or 9th best record!")
But for real.
It's GOOD! Narrative collage. Skipping through history. Synths and samples (yes, samples). A couple nine-minute songs destined for the Top 40. I even have the fantastic Anna Tivel and Margaret Gibson Wehr singing LEAD vocals on a few verses.
I guess my elevator pitch would be "Jason Isbell and Tom Joad-era Springsteen filtered through a kind of Internet-age Impressionism."
Did my elevator pitch work?
If so, I would LOVE for you to pre-order the album today! You'll be helping me a great deal as I wrap up the final stages (and expenses) of releasing new music in this vast digital apocalypse known as now.
If you're with me, let's #MakeAmericanaGreatAgain!
I trust I can rely on your vote,
